DECEPTICONS IN DECEPTION

As a Transformers fan thanks to my two boys, I realize that we do not have to go to the cinema to see Decepticons fighting around in a Transformers movie because we have Decepticons in our midst who are Masters of Deception!

The Decepticons are usually depicted as the Antagonists in the fictional universes of the Transformers toyline and related comics and cartoons, and the enemies of the Autobots.

In many ways, the Malaysian Decepticons are the villains who take many forms and are led by the Malaysian Megatron. Most significantly, these Decepticons have power, influence, status and resources that the Malaysian Autobots sorely lack.

This post is truncated. Click the next link to read more.

The Decepticons of this country regard the rest of us to be a dumb lot on this part of the world and assume that we are a passive audience to swallow their propaganda coated with sloganeering lock, stock and barrel.

For the rest of us 'normal' beings, it is a norm to believe that any act or word to deceive others are not moral, even lying for that matter although sometimes, white lies could be entertained if it can prevent a loved one from coming to great harm.

Some argue that there is nothing intrinsically wrong in deceit or deceptions which are justified whenever good consequences outweigh the bad ones. Then there are those who often argue that it IS wrong to deceive others such as what the Decepticons do of course. Obviously, when the Decepticons do cheat or lie, they try to cover their tracks and feign ignorance.

Deception is often destructive as it hinders one from assessing the true situation, and from acting concordant with one's interests and moral commitments. Often, deception is used by malicious third parties for purposes of control to lead others into the path of self-destruction.

When considering whether it is justified to deceive another, think of the immediate effect on the
individual deceived directly, and also the continuing repercussions of that behaviour. Some points to consider:
  • One lie begets another. When a pretence is established, it must be maintained thereafter by further deception.
  • Be sensitive to your conscience. Liars are robbed of their conscience when led to tell more frequent and more serious lies. They resort to using deception as a first, rather than a last, resort when encountering problems.
  • When deception mushrooms, trust in people or institutions or the government is undermined thereby making it difficult for society to function as a cohesive and stable unit.

Plato and Machiavelli enjoined leaders to practice deception. Through Socrates, Plato argued that citizens should be encouraged, in the interests of harmony and stability, to accept as truth a ‘noble lie’, under which all men are brothers through the earth, and assigned to a particular social station by the gods.

The ultra-realist Machiavelli, on the other hand, averred that politics is an arena in which traditional moral judgements simply do not apply, and accordingly advised his prince to resort to deception and other sharp practices in order to shore up his rule.

Remember both of them DID NOT believe in the democratic ideal. We are different from them because we believe in the democratic ideal so any instance of governmental deception must be rejected as harmful. Why?

1. Citizens cannot think logically or rationally whether particular policies are in their interests.

2. They would be handicapped to accurately assess the track records of their assemblymen.

3. Inter-personal relationships, any form of political deception in the political sphere subverts and misdirects rational, reflective choice.

4. When deception goes undetected, LIARS and DECEPTICONS may be goaded by their triumph and then, as can be seen in many cases, rely more readily on dishonest means to achieve their ends,

The worse thing is, once the gravy train is running, it offsets and and instigates a culture of deception among the political elite. Is this what we see today???

5. Once lies, deceit and deception are exposed, voters may lose trust in those that govern on their behalf, and cease to engage in political activity, believing that all politicians are ‘as bad as each other’, and that none are worthy of support. Could this be one reason for political apathy of some voters and why some have not even registered to be a voter?

Deception and secrecy motivated by personal gain can easily be glossed as necessary for ‘official reasons’. But what are the vital interests of the state? Is there a situation where it can legitimately be promoted by deceptive means?

If that is the case, on what grounds can politicians determine when they may lie to their people?
Whatever their rationale for a project, they must be present these openly to citizens who must then endorse these to further establish confidence and stability in the government. Can this happen if DECEPTICONS continue to storm the face of this part of our planet?

What then should be our response to deception that occurs in institutions of the state and civil society? For one, the rakyat must always keep an eye on the leaders by scrutinizing public government documents and records to ensure that the activities of politicians and civil servants are monitored and corroborated.

Secondly, whistle-blowers must receive legal protection, rather than be charged for breaching official secrecy legislation.

As seen in the Watergate scandal, the MSM must be alert in the investigation and uncovering of government deception.

We must realize that any form of deception prevents open democracy as voters cannot deliberate knowledgeably in such a way that their representatives are accountable for their actions or lack of it. Unjustified lying must be monitored and prevented and rakyat, PLEASE SPEAK UP AGAINST THIS via the right channels, especially via your ADUNs and Members of Parliament. It is up to us now to rid our country of the Decepticons of Deception!!! Too many are running around wrecking havoc and the rot has to stop NOW!
